Award Winning Barn Conversion

Award winning barn conversion to a Grade II Listed barn in South Hertfordshire

The barn conversion won the Hertfordshire Association of Architects Conservation and Restoration category for 2011

The project was subject to restrictions due to the presence of protected species i.e. bats and great crested newts. This impacted on the method of construction entailing the provision of temporary support to the barn whilst new foundations were constructed.

Extensive timber repairs in green oak were undertaken to the existing frame, wood fibre boarding and sheep’s wool insulation with lime putty haired plaster on lathes were introduced between the studs and rafters to expose as much as possible of the original timbers.

A new oak staircase, windows and doors were manufactured in our joiner’s shop.

Works to the adjoining stable block were undertaken to provide additional living accommodation.
